Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus. It can cause:
- a painful rash
- fever
- swollen lymph nodes
Mpox should be suspected in someone presenting with a consistent rash/skin lesions, particularly in the genital and anorectal or mouth regions and especially if they are unvaccinated. Mpox is primarily transmitted through direct or indirect contact with an infectious person through lesions.
Please note that Freddie cannot provide urgent care or walk-in clinic services. If Mpox is suspected, you should always seek in-person care through your family doctor or a walk-in clinic.
Additionally, Freddie clinicians cannot prescribe Mpox vaccine prescriptions as they must be obtained through Public Health in your respective province. To determine your eligibility for the Mpox vaccine, or for more information, please contact your nearest Public Health Unit.
