PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and DoxyPEP (Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) are both preventive measures used to reduce the risk of HIV/STI transmission, but they work in different ways and have distinct uses.
Please note that DoxyPEP is a way to help reduce the risk of bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, and/or chlamydia, and is a separate medication from PrEP.
PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It’s a medication that you can take to prevent getting HIV if you are HIV-negative. When you take PrEP every day it is 99%+ effective at preventing HIV.
