PrEP prescriptions are typically issued as a 90-day supply. To get a refill, you’ll need to complete lab tests every three months. Our standard lab requisitions include tests for HIV, STI’s and to monitor your kidney function. With regular tests, we can make sure you’re healthy and connect you with treatment, if you need it.
We recommend that you start the renewal process for your PrEP prescription when you have around one bottle (30 pills) remaining in your current supply.
We'll break down each step within the process below:
1. Self-assessment
Log into your Freddie account and complete the self-assessment on your dashboard. This will ask a few questions about your current health and how your treatment is going. Your answers will be forwarded to Freddie’s clinical team for review.
If you have any persistent or bothersome side effects, you may be prompted to book an appointment with a clinician.
After completing the self-assessment, you'll also have the option to request DoxyPEP with your PrEP refill.

2. Go for lab testing
Once you’ve completed the self-assessment, a new lab requisition will be uploaded to your patient portal.
Some labs can take walk-in appointments, but some need to be booked in advance. This will vary depending on where you live; in some provinces, this wait could be two weeks or more. It’s a good idea to book an appointment as soon as your requisition is ready.
Most labs accept lab requisitions via email. You can use the 'Share' button in the patient portal to email your requisition directly to the lab, using the email address provided when you arrive at the lab.
3. Notify us of completed lab tests in the patient portal
After completing your lab tests, log back into the Freddie portal and fill out the lab feedback form on your dashboard. You can find this form in the dashboard section by clicking "I've gone to the lab". You can also navigate to the Lab requisitions tab on the left hand sidebar to enter your lab information.
The lab feedback form will ask you where and when you completed your lab tests. This information is helpful for our Support teams in the event we need to contact the lab you attended to obtain your results.
4. Clinicians Review your lab results and issue prescription refills
Once you've completed lab feedback, our clinicians will send a new prescription to your preferred pharmacy within 48 hours. You will receive an email notifying you when your prescription has been sent to your preferred pharmacy. You can also view your prescription history by navigating to the 'Prescriptions' tab on the left-hand side of the patient portal.
We refill prescriptions while your test results are pending to make sure that your PrEP supply isn’t interrupted. On average, your results can take around 10 business days to process. We will only get in touch if there are any results to know about - no news is good news!
5. Collect your renewal prescription
Once the pharmacy has processed your prescription, they will contact you to arrange delivery or pickup details for your medication(s). If you do not hear from your pharmacy within 3 days of your prescription being issued, please contact the pharmacy directly.
Most people will receive 3 bottles (30 pills per bottle for a total of 90 pills) at a time. Some insurance plans will only dispense one bottle at a time to prevent you from paying anything out of pocket, your pill count should include the number of doses you have on hand and any refills waiting at the pharmacy.

* If the pharmacy did not deliver your full 90-day prescription, please call them when you are down to the last 7 pills to arrange delivery/pick-up for your next bottle.
